(USS Illuminar- Deck 3- Personal Quarters - 2/O&COps CMDR Dieter
Gregory - 0400)<br>
<br>
Gregory looked up at the ceiling. He had been cleared for duty the
other day. 'Light duty' is what he was told, but that was not in his
vocabulary. His right leg was giving him trouble, so he was using a
cane to move around. Dr. Anges thought it was a temporary thing, and
had been treating him with neuro-stimulants and massage. <br>
<br>
The first 48 hours after being discharged, he reviewed the Iluminar logs
and status updates. Being busy helped him not focus on things he would
rather focus on. He wasn't happy that Leeza was still with the
Hammons, and Alyana's words about his history making him unfit to parent
her still haunted him. That was a low blow, and very biased at a
minimum. So for now, he'd have to settle for SPOTs keeping an eye on
her, and his regular meetings with Leeza. She was adjusting as the rest
of the Rhyne crew were. <br>
<br>
Planning meeting continued to figure out how best to protect Leeza, and
he hoped they would not have to execute Michael's last-ditch effort. He
had stored a letter of resignation in the computer, just in case. <br>

He wasn't going to get any sleep again, so better to get to work. After
a shower, he headed off to his office. <br>
<br>

0500)<br>
<br>
Gregory was into his second cup of tea when there was a chime at his
door. "Enter," he called. <br>
<br>
In walked Ensign Morgenthall, the operations officer on gamma shift.
"Come in Ensign, have a seat." <br>
<br>
The woman walked in and sat down, "Good to have you back, Sir," she
said. <br>
<br>
"It is good to be back. I've been reviewing what happened on the
Illuminar while I was away, and I saw no issues."<br>
<br>
"Yes, sir, thank you sir," she said. <br>
<br>
"I have been reviewing the duty rooster with Chief Ywan, and we will be
making some changes that effect you."<br>
<br>
"Sir?" she said<br>
<br>
"Yes, I am moving you to beta shift. That way you will be on duty with
me, and we can work on preparing you for the operations exam. I think
you are ready," he replied.<br>
<br>
Victoria's face lit up, "Oh, thank you Sir. You won't be disappointed."
<br>
<br>
"I am sure you will continue to serve with distinction."<br>
<br>
"Dismissed," Gregory said.<br>
<br>
The ensign left his office, leaving Gregory to his thoughts. Adjusting
the controls on his desk, the screen on the wall began displaying what
the main viewer was showing. Some time in Mars and Earth would give him
time to recover and train the new recruits to operations, including one
Ensign Scott Matrix. He remembered a Matrix on the Rhyne, but this
one's service record indicated he had taken a leave of absence. Curious.<br>
<br>
He turned back to the reports and began reading them as he sipped his
tea.<br>
