There’ve been updates from Engineering that the issues created by Starbase Freedom’s AI’s interactions with Hades main computer have been resolved thanks to some impressive code isolation from a young Freedom engineer. All stations report nominal status and We are continuing en route to drop off the freedoms personnel at their mission before continuing our own new personnel pick up at DS9. ” “Commander, there’s an Admiral Skop from Starfleet Command,” the Operstions officer announced. Jayc paused his recording and turned from the auxiliary station. He loved the dim lighting of the bridge during gamma shift. The instrumentation gave a pleasant glow from the consoles. “For the Captain?” “No sir, for you directly,” the operations officer explained. Jayc took a deep breath, -Step two already,- he thought. “You have the bridge. I’ll take it in the observation lounge.” “Aye, Commander,” the ensign said watching him walk with interest. Admirals usually contacted captains. Jayc got up and walked to the lounge where he faced one of the stations and activated the line. A Vulcan stared at him. “Lt. Commander Jayc here,” he said coming to attention. The Vulcan gestured with a finger. “Admiral Skop, Starfleet Command, at ease Commander. I understand I am calling late in the evening. Thank you for taking this communication.” Jayc nodded and relaxed his body. “Thank you sir. I actually have the bridge for Gamma shift.” Skop’s head tilted slightly in acknowledgement. “Then let’s get to the purpose of this transmission so that you can return to your duties,” he said and picked up a padd from his desk. “I am reaching out to you this evening in response to a formal petition from the Betazed government to order your return to your homeworld .” “What reason was given ,Admiral, for this petition?” The Vulcan tapped a sequence on his padd and the monitor gf split in half, one with the Vulcan and the other with a document that Jayc began to peruse. “According to the Betazed government you are scheduled to get married to reunite issues between the second and the fourth houses thereby reducing tension between planetary regions.” Jayc considered that. “Is that the official reason? Odd that no one thought to see if I was willing.” The Admiral set down the padd and clasped his hands together. “Indeed. I understand you were unaware until contact by the diplomatic corp earlier this evening?.” Jayc shook his head. “Correct.” “I am reading from this pad that the Betazed Council of the ruling houses formally requests that Starfleet command Order Tinmanrion Jayc, Betazed citizen and heir to the second house home for his official marriage and following coronation as the heir apparent to the second house of Betazed. ” The Vulcan turned and regarded Jayc. “It would seem congratulations are in order save the fact that you are already married..” Jayc folded his arms across his chest, “Agreed sir Such congratulations are unwarranted in this case as I am unwilling to dissolve my current marriage for their political arrangements, now would I accept if I were single.” Skop continued perusing the padd. “I will be required to respond to the Betazed government’s formal request. Apparently the government has requested your immediate return regardless of you marital status? This puzzles me. “Do you have any idea why The Betazed council is so interested in your return?.” Jayc took a deep breath. “Yes Admiral. My mother, the seat of the second house and I have been estranged since before my departure to Starfleet academy. She is furious that I refused my first arranged marriage, I formally refused the seat of the second house or any membership in it, and I am already married to my husband. She is likely pulling political favors to force me home to make me retake the heir apparent. I will not do so.” Skop raised an eyebrow. “I am being asked to order your return so that you can be convinced to reconsider. I see.” “I will not reconsider.” “That is expected. The requests states said spouse, Semaj D’nob is not eligible for marriage due to his status as D’nob, marked for no reproduction,” Skip glanced at Jayc from the padd again. “You are aware of the meaning of D’nob and the failure of the Kahs-wan…” “Check your records, Admiral. Semaj did not fail the kahs -wan.” “He is still classified as D’nob.” “Yes because he received. Brain injury saving his older brother from death which prevented the ability to attain the kohlinar. His parents had him marked D’nob as they were kohlinar priests and considered it the only true Vulcan form. He possesses no genetic or inheritable trait that reasonably prevents progeny from healthy fulfilling life. He has done well in Starfleet.” “Agreed,” Skop stated. I have already reviewed his records in an attempt to understand he rectified petition by the Betazed council. I believe tha is well within his rights to drop D’nob from his title.” Jayc blinked feeling a sudden drop in his defensiveness for his husband. “Thank you Admiral.” “Unnecessary, however We’re I to order you to return to d with the mission o rectify this situation what would be your response?” Jayc considered and then said, “"I would demand Starfleet provide the legal basis for this request, including the specific statute and clause that obligates my compliance with a forced marriage. And in the meantime I would demand Betaze’s ruling council provide the legal basis for this request, including the specific statute and clause that obligates my compliance with a forced marriage.” Skop raised an eyebrow. I will relay that demand to Betazed myself. As for Starfleet, there is no legal statute that can force you to marry. I can however order you there to maintain political peace.” This is not a threat admiral, but my response to such an order would be to renounce my Betazed citizenship and if necessary I will resign from Starfleet if I am ordered to return. I will not return to the second house.” Skop raised an eyebrow. He seemed to be calculating then finally responded. “I will deny this petition, however I believe there is more coming…… and Lt. Commander, I am aware of the unofficial reputation of the second house. Are these of any consequence to your refusal to be a party to the second house?” Jayc stared at the admiral. “I will not be a party to the reputation of the second house, in practice or in deed.” “Thank you for your time,” Skop said in finality. I will be reaching out to Semaj. D’nob is an archaic practice.” The transmission closed and Tin took a steadying breath (Posted by tinmanjayc) We are what we repeatedly do. Ifwe face any opposition, will we need to throttle the engines power compared toa regular ship of this sizes the engines to prevent overrunning andoverloading?”    Ire nodded. “Yes she has redundant power impulse power and will shake herselfapart if pushed past her throttle limiters. High speed violent maneuvering willmore likely over stress the inertial dampeners then and put a load ofadditional strain on the engine mounts.”   He paused for a moment before carrying on. “If you keep her with in her specifies parameters you will befine. "Actually, yes. She has cloaking capability." Keira answered. "One of the more advanced ones, it would take the newer Starfleet sensors like the Hades, Exeter or Luminar to be able to find her, with varying amounts of effort, none of them easy." (Reply Quinna, any) "Well the Romulan scientists don't like calling it a device, because that implies that missing one component or that one component is responsible for the cloaking effect. "Sniper? What weapons are you rated for?" Sean asked. "And your qualification scores for each..." (Reply Stom) Sean listened as the Marine rattled off a series of weapon systems probably faster than he could have looked it up. It's one of the things Sean liked about Marines, attention to detail. She took the time to actually heal, even with regular visits to sick bay for deep tissue regeneration, the Captain had been taking it easy. She had put Ire in charge of patrols. He thought like a pilot, but in doing so extended the accurate sensor data by a ten light year radius by using the fighters to extend sensor range and telemetry. As such she'd fallen behind on some of the routine clerical courtesies, like personally meeting every officer that is assigned, she planned on fixing that today. Keira heard the chime. "Enter." A tall Cardassian stepped in the opened doors and stood at attention. “ Lieutenant Emar Derok, reporting as commanded.” Keira smiled at the not mistake, but misunderstanding. "We're not quite so formal around here, Lieutenant Derok, more like a strongly worded courtesy." (Reply Emar) "You'll be the second Cardassian I've met, the first being our Chief Medical Officer Doctor Dural, have you met him?" (Reply Emar) "Good, because if you hadn't I'd have to introduce you. As you've met Dural you know he would not let me forget that we had a Cardassian on board and that I failed to make the introduction." (Reply Emar) "Are you from Cardassia Prime as Dural is?" Keira asked. (Reply Emar) "I have the luxury of knowing Doctor Dural for a couple years at least, you are a blank slate. My family are farmers, I grew up fixing and modifying farming equipment. A farmland with a toolbox is what my father called me. Couldn't help with the harvest but I sure could fix the humidifier grid.” The young Cardassian smiled, perhaps thinking of home. “ Growing up on Bajor wasn't easy, but it's home, well it was home.” "There's a Earth proverb, *home is where the heart is." * Keira said. The people of the Carraya IV colony, while generally nice, honest and hardworking, were also very guarded, especially around those they deemed outsiders. "Would you like something to drink, Ensign?" The captain asked. “ Oh yes please, Captain. Anything from home ?” La'Kura asked. ( Reply Keira) “ You programmed that into the replicator yourself didn't you ?” La'Kura asked with a chuckle, it was a most random selection ( Reply Keira) “ In the Academy I programmed at least two dozen options into the replicator in my quarters. Everything from Chita Tea to Mikor juice.” La'Kura laughed. It was nice to talk to someone from home. ( Reply Keira) La'Kura took the drink that was offered to her. “ Thank you, Captain.” La'Kura said and took a drink. ( Reply Keira) “ This is perfect. A smile threatened to appear on his lip but he responded professionally. “Lt. Commander, Lt. Dogan is ready for our meeting.” He stood signed out of his work and they walked to the security chiefs office. Semaj held the PADD Jayc had worked to specialize for him. He tapped the claxon for Dogan’s door. Dogan had already been standing when the door chime rang. His office had only one decoration in it, a painting that hung on the side wall. It was a painting of the Brikarian home world. He would often look at it and contemplate what his life would be like if had been allowed to return, an impossibility. He turned as the door opened and the duo entered. Nodding, which looked much like a bow, he acknowledged them. “Gentlemen, come in. Please sit.” “Good afternoon Cal,” Jayc said pleasantly in response. Semaj nodded once and both sat. He returned to the other side of his desk and sat in his reinforced chair. It still groaned slightly at his weight. “So tell me what you’ve got.” Semaj opened his own collapsible padd and activated a holographic display over the padd and desk. It was the map of the inner galactic borders of the Federation. “I wrote a forensic program allowing me to obtain the data I am about to share across the entire range of Federstion space. I only utilized data that is within the navigational buoy array spread across Starfleet space as well as those we can access through civilian trade and commercial routes. I had the computer create a sequestered access to analyze for the readings and travel type observed by the ship monitoring us and the research station. This is the totality of readings recorded of navigational buoys sensors registering these specific types space travel.” The image across the map filled with clouding red dots in various parts of federation space. In almost all areas. But definitely the concentrations were highest in areas near ally and enemy borders. “The findings included 11,237 such points, logic suggests many are the same vessels being registered.” Cal leaned forward and peered at the image. His usually impassive face made a look of disappointment. “Hmm… they get around.” Jayc “I wish we could see them in motion.” “Indeed,” Semaj said. And activated the program. This is at 100,000 times normal speed and takes 1.296 minutes to complete the visual view..” They watched patterns start to emerge indicating starts and stops. Pauses and continued travel. Jayc stared at the images. “Can you play it again? Have it eliminate any random travel and focus where vessels seem to congregate over time?” Semaj nodded. “Already programmed in. This time lapse is only 46.317 seconds” He played the data spread and 9 congregation points appeared on the holography. As he watched Dogan noticed a strange pattern evolving. “One more time, Mr. Semaj, only play it at three-quarter speed.” As the video replayed again there was a moment where there were three entry and exit points at once, consecutively. “There,” he pointed with a thick finger, “there’s a pattern. Semaj nodded. “Yes and in that pattern there are three other specific regions that have similar to this,” Semaj stated showing those data points. It suggests small networked bases or congregation points.” Cal nodded, “At the very least, indicates that there may be a centralized launching point, that seems to be moving in from the Typhon Expanse.” It was odd that so much seemed to be occurring around that sector of space. “I believe a covert investigation is in order,” Semaj suggested to his superior. “There are no mentions of pirate bases, Starfleet operations, or other documented sightings in this area at this time.” “Indeed,” Cal replied. “Perhaps our friend Mr. Weston might have some input on the matter. Meanwhile, we should probably report our findings so far to Captain Merek.” “Or the temporal agent, Toks.” Jayc added. “He gives me the impression he has tabs on several things.” Semaj removed an isolinear chip from his tunic and passed it to Dogan. “I prepared a report for you that was off the regular system so that it could be viewed privately by you and the captain.” Dogan was surprised by his junior officer who, typically, always followed protocol and regulations to the letter, as most Vulcans do. He took the chip and nodded. “When I meet with the Captain I will call for you to attend,” Cal said. “Meanwhile… I may have a few others that may help me as well. Thank you Mr. Semaj. Lt. Commander Jayc.” We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.- Aristotle -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Emar watched as several members of the crew drug the Nausicaan away from the table and out of the room. “ I agree, New cards ?” Emar asked as he signaled to someone, anyone to give them new cards. In a short time new cards were introduced to the table. “I see you are playing that card game again. What is it? Pokemon, Poke Stick.” A newcomer inquired. Emar noticed her eyes were darting at the human whose name was Michael. Emar looked at Michael as well. ~ Do they know each other ?~Thought to himself. (Replies, any) “Can I play?” The woman asked. Emar smiled and gestured to the seat across from him. “ Seems a chair just opened up Commander.” He said, referring to the Nausicaan’s vacated seat. Commander Jayc Mission: Homecoming Day: 2 Stardate: 2446.10.17 (USS Hades - Deck 5 - Personal Quarters - LT Commander Tinmanrion Jayc Lt. Semaj- 1726) The couple had returned from th meeting with Dogan . There was several interesting points in why Semaj had found. What was intriguing, was the vessels version of space travel. Of course there were more than one means of travel to warp speed but others were variations on he theme. This somehow speed create micro burst wormholes. Jayc’s head was spinning amwith possibilities as they were having a silent telepathic conversation from each others perspectives when the com chimed. =^= Bridge to Lt. Commander Jayc,=^= Jayc’s who had been on the couch running his fingers though Semaj’s slightly longer than Vulcan military norm hair and pulled his arm back and tapped his badge. “Jayc here.” =^= Sir, you have a live communication from the Federation Diplomatic Corp,” the unfamiliar voice said. Semaj’s eyebrow raised. Jayc looked at his husband and shrugged curiously. He stood from he couch and walked over to the wall and activated the monitor, entering his access code and queuing communications. “I’ve got it, thanks bridge. Jayc out. He signaled his husband to join him. When Semaj came to stand near but out of sight, he tapped the answer button. The image of a Betazoid woman , beautiful with a line of gray moving through her long hair, recognized the line went active an placed her hands on top of on another on her desk. “Lt. Commander Tinmanrion Jayc?” She asked. Jayc nodded, “Yes.” That was all he gave at that moment. “Chief Ambassador Bren, Federation Diplomatic Corp. we have arranged given immediate leave and authorization for long range shuttle transport to Betazed. Your current missions and duties are to be transferred to others in the interim.” Jayc paused and looked back at Semaj a moment. “Why Ambasssdor?” he tried hard to put down the fear and old wounds of home. Semaj’s hand went to the small of his back in support. Jayc felt his muscles relax just at he touch of his mate. Bren blinked, clearly caught off guard. But her diplomatic training reasserted itself quickly. “For your wedding of course.” Jayc stiffened again instantly. He started to ask ‘what?!?!- but he knew who was behind this. Instead he fell into his own diplomatic training and his own diplomatic “No thank you Ambassador.” Bren blinked. “What did you say Lt. Commander?” He could see the shock. “I decline leave and transport to Betazed as I am already married and do not want to go to Betazed.” “oh!” She said her surprise honest. “Apparently someone in The Betazed govt didn’t check on that before making this request. They said it was politically highly important for you to return home for this. I think you need to head home and get this sorted out with them.” ”They didn’t bother to include me in the plans. I think they can figure it out without my participation. “ She grabbed her workstation monitor and pulled it closer surprised and rereading her instructions. “That certainly seems to be a problem. But the request comes from the ruling council itself. They want you home regardless. Jayc took a deep breath, “I decline.” “Betazed is usually a very reasonable member planet, this type of request doesn’t come through often.,” she shred. “But what I am seeing here sees a big mess. The way it is written, I naturally assumed you were aware. I’m sorry to have thrown this on you.” Jayc smiled . “I appreciate that Ambassador. Please relay my decision to through the appropriate channels. And please let them know if they have any other requests they should reach out to me directly. Was there anything else?” Bren tapped her stylus on the desk several times and turned her hands relenting. “I will do that. If I come across further information I will forward it to you. Also I will forward your marital status to the Betazed government. Again I apologize for this mishandling. Thank you.” She said and the transmission ended. “That was unexpected .” Semaj began. “Only in the timing. Not the attempt,” Jayc shook his head and returned to couch. “Your mother,” Semaj said. Jayc nodded. “Well it is over,” the Vulcan said. Jayc laughed. “That would be the rational conclusion, and this is likely a first step for her.” (Reply none) (Posted by tinmanjayc
